How to care for your skin in your 40s
Your 40s can be a wonderful decade that finds you filled with more confidence, wisdom, and contentedness than ever before. And while all of this experience usually comes hand-in-hand with added responsibility, you owe it yourself to continue to take care of your health and your skin and keep this newly established confidence well into the decades to come.
Your 40s are all about continued prevention, as well as treatment of any signs of aging that have started to show. If you dedicate yourself to investing in your skincare, there’s no reason you cannot have a healthy, rejuvenated glow as the years continue.
Your skin concerns
You may notice that fine lines and wrinkles begin to deepen and may even be joined by pesky sun or age spots. And as your collagen production continues to slow, you’ll have to work a little harder to keep your complexion plump.
Continue to take care of yourself
With a laundry list of responsibilities, it’s really easy to throw healthier habits to the wayside, but it’s as important as ever to look after yourself. Drinking plenty of water, eating an antioxidant rich diet, and sleeping well can do wonders for dryness, under-eye bags, and overall more rejuvenated skin. And the best part? This kind of self care doesn’t cost you any extra.
And we cannot stress the importance of sunscreen enough. It’s not only an important habit that you should practice everyday but arguably the most important step in your anti-aging routine. Ensure that your moisturizer has an SPF 30 or above and be sure to lather up the rest of your body as well. Also, remember that sunscreen is especially important when using retinol.
Keep it consistent
Don’t just treat your skincare routine as another item to check off of your to-do list, make it a special ritual for yourself that you practice twice a day. Work on staying consistent with a good routine and try to enjoy the process along the way.
Don’t forget your neck
While you’re busy sunscreening, moisturizing and treating your face, be sure to give your neck some love. Ensure it ages just as gracefully as its neighbor upstairs by applying your skincare routine down below. And while you're at it, moisturize the rest of your body as well!
Invest in good products
If you haven’t done so already, make sure you’re investing in high-quality skincare products that work for your skin type. In order to continue your graceful aging process, you’ll need products that do their job effectively.
Cleanse and tone
Be in the habit of washing your face after waking up and before bed. You’ll want to make sure your cleanser and toner are both hydrating, so they don’t strip your skin of the moisture it desperately needs.
Add in antioxidants
Use this in conjunction with your daily sunscreen to help protect your skin from free radicals including UV rays, pollution, cigarette smoke, and other pollutants that you come across every day. A Vitamin C serum will not only protect your skin, but stimulate collagen production and brighten your complexion.
Exfoliate
By now, you’ve noticed that your dead skin cell turnover rate has begun to slow dramatically, which means you’ll need to step in and help out. Exfoliating two to three times a week will not only help you keep your youthful glow, but it’ll help eliminate that dead layer of skin cells preventing your other products from penetrating deeper into your skin.
Turn to Retinol
Vitamin A is a great way to tighten pores, stimulate collagen production, increase skin turnover, and is overall a great addition to your routine. Please note that it can be irritating towards sensitive skin, so it’s important to use it once or twice a week to start and slowly work your way up to everyday use.
Moisturize
Opt for creamier, rich moisturizers that contain ceramides and hyaluronic acid to help keep your skin plump and dewy. Also, invest in both a face and eye cream that is ultra-hydrating and targets the issues that you want to focus in on. Keeping your skin hydrated will help prevent any further aging.
Your Deminuage NanoPen
As your skin cell turnover begins to slow, it prevents your products from reaching deep enough to do their job. Pairing your serums with your NanoPen helps them bypass this outer layer making them 20x more effective thus making your your Deminuage device your secret weapon in your fight against aging.
Check in with your skin
If you haven’t already started visiting a dermatologist, it’s a good time to do so. While sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles are pesky forms of sun damage, there’s more serious consequences.Getting a check up will help ensure your skin is healthy and safe for years to come.
